Who are we?

This website belongs to Mardon Lawyers, a law practice on Level 14, 333 Collins Street, Melbourne VIC 3000. By using it, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

Is anything here legal advice?

No. Everything on this site, including our Insights notes, is general information about the law in Victoria and Australia as it stood when it was written. It isn’t advice about your situation, and you shouldn’t rely on it as if it were.

Laws change and small facts matter, so please talk to a lawyer before you act. A first call with a partner costs nothing for up to twenty minutes.

When do you become my lawyers?

When we’ve agreed in writing to act for you. Before any work starts, we send you a costs agreement that sets out the work, the fee and who will do it. We act for you once you’ve signed it, or once we’ve confirmed in writing that we’ve started urgent work.

Reading this site, writing to us or a first call doesn’t make us your lawyers.

Is what I send you confidential?

Yes. We treat everything you send us as confidential, even if we don’t end up acting for you. Until we’ve checked we’re free to act, please keep your first message short: what’s happened, who the other people are, and any dates that matter.

If we already act for someone else in the matter, we may not be able to act for you. We won’t use what you sent against you, and we’ll tell you quickly so you can find another lawyer.

How up to date is it?

We review our pages and notes when the law changes, but we can’t promise every page is current on the day you read it. Each Insights note shows the date it was written. If something looks out of date, tell us and we’ll fix it.

What about links to other websites?

We link to courts, regulators and services we think will help. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for what they say or how they handle your information.

Can I use your content?

The words, photographs and design on this site belong to Mardon Lawyers or to the people who license them to us. You’re welcome to share links and to quote short passages with credit. Please ask before copying anything else.

What are you liable for?

Liability limited by a scheme approved under Professional Standards Legislation.

As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for loss caused by relying on general information on this site. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that can’t be excluded.

Which law applies?

The law of Victoria, Australia. Any dispute about this website will be dealt with by the courts of Victoria.

Will these terms change?

Sometimes. The date beside the contents shows when they were last updated. If you keep using the site after a change, the new terms apply.
